At The Recap Press, our mission is to drive sustainability by repurposing bottle caps into unique, handcrafted keychains. We are committed to reducing waste and promoting eco-conscious practices by transforming everyday items into functional, creative accessories. Through our efforts, we aim to inspire a more sustainable and mindful approach to consumption.
The Process
Collecting and Sorting Bottle Caps
We start by collecting bottle caps from all over—town, school, wherever we can find them. We even ask our friends and family to help out! Once we have a good amount, we sort them by color and check that they're the right size and type of plastic. If any don't work, we just recycle them.
Washing the Bottle Caps
Then, we give the bottle caps a good cleaning! We wash them by hand with soap, then dry them off. After that, we put them in a steam closet on the sanitize mode for an extra deep clean. Once they are all fresh and shiny, they're ready to be turned into keychains!
Heating and Stamping the Bottle Caps
Finally, we heat up the caps using a press-down heating machine. After a few rounds of molding and pressing, we place them on a slab and use a custom Recap Press stamp to leave a cool imprint. Once the keychain has cooled and hardened, we trim it to shape and add a cute little handle to finish it off!
The Final Product!
Here is the final product! You can style them on pretty much anything—a backpack, your bag, keys, or even a reusable water bottle. They're not just cute, they’re also a fun reminder to stay sustainable and keep recycling. Plus, each one is totally unique, made with a lot of love and care!
